Here’s how to make the best pineapple smoothie! It’s got just the right creamy texture and is bursting with sweet fruity flavor.

Pineapple Smoothie

Calling all pineapple lovers! There’s not much better than slicing up cubes of a juicy fresh pineapple to snack on. The sweet tropical flavor is simply irresistible. So here’s a smoothie recipe that captures all that beauty: this perfect pineapple smoothie! All you need is a handful of ingredients make a smooth, frothy yellow puree with the best fruity flavor. Here are all the tricks to making this tasty tropical drink.

Ingredients in this pineapple smoothie

This healthy pineapple smoothie has just a few ingredients, and it’s mostly fruit! There are no added juices or sweeteners. Here’s what you need to make this creamy puree:

  • Frozen pineapple: Use frozen pineapple to get that perfectly icy texture. You can use fresh too, but we prefer using that for snacking. Frozen pineapple is easy to find and store for whenever you have a smoothie craving.
  • Banana: The banana helps to make a creamy texture and accentuate the sweetness.
  • Water & Milk: A combination of water and milk together makes just the right creaminess. You can use any type of dairy or non-dairy milk (more on that below).
  • Ice: Ice makes the perfect frothy texture.
  • Fresh lime juice: The citrus amps the flavors! You can also use fresh lemon juice.

Amp up the protein

This pineapple smoothie is mostly fruit! If you’re looking for a smoothie that’s packed with protein, here are some ideas:

  • Greek yogurt: Yogurt adds quite a bit of protein and probiotics for a healthy gut. Try blending in ¼ cup to ½ cup, to taste. If necessary, add a few splashes of water to get it to blend.
  • Cashew butter. The cashew flavor goes well with pineapple. Use about 1 tablespoon, 2 tablespoons for a stronger flavor. Keep in mind this addition will also dull the color a bit.
  • Protein powder: Of course, you can also throw in some protein powder! Our top choice is Greek yogurt for the flavor.

How to make it plant based / vegan!

You can make this pineapple smoothie into a vegan smoothie by using your favorite non-dairy milk instead of dairy milk. Here are the types of plant-based milk we like to use:

  • Oat milk: The flavor is sweet and it has a nice creamy texture; it’s ideal for smoothies.
  • Almond milk: A little closer to water in its texture, but it’s popular and easy to find.
  • Coconut milk: It’s super thick and adds a strong coconut flavor (it would be especially delicious here!).
  • Soy milk: It has a nice sweet flavor and thick texture; we use it less than the other three.

More flavor variations!

Want to vary your pineapple smoothie? Here are a few more flavor ideas to mix in:

  • Coconut. Use coconut milk, or throw in a handful of coconut to the mix (or toasted coconut). It will taste like a piña colada!
  • Vanilla. Use ¼ to ½ teaspoon vanilla to add complexity.
  • Mint or basil. Add a few fresh mint or basil leaves for an herbaceous spin.
  • Mango or peach. Substitute 1 cup of the frozen pineapple for 1 cup frozen mangos or peaches.

  1. I made the recipe to a T and, yet, it was pretty bad. I had my doubts whether including 1/2 banana to 3 cups of pineapple was a good idea, but I continued anyway. Turns out my doubts were justified. Adding the banana made it so there was absolutely no taste of pineapple whatsoever. Correct me if I’m wrong but this isn’t a banana smoothie. It also canceled out the lemon juice. I’m sure your recipe would have been great if not for the amount of banana you say to use. Caution to anyone looking at this recipe: do not add the amount of banana they say if you want a pineapple smoothie, because it’s terrible and will waste your food.

    1. Hi there! Thanks for letting us know. To us, 1/2 banana is just enough to help provide a smooth texture and we like the flavor notes that it adds to compliment the pineapple. Feel free to make this smoothie without the banana if you prefer: simply increase the ice or milk to adjust the texture accordingly.

  2. Delicious! Made it as written with lemon juice. Has a lovely, mild flavor. Loved the froth! The pineapple really shines.

  3. Very good! I used the lemon juice and found it to be rather sour, but that’s easily fixed with a little maple syrup. It was very thick, so we ate it with spoons would be lovely on a summer’s day.

  4. I made the PINEAPPLE SMOOTHIE and it was/is AMAZING. Everyone should make it.

  5. How do you tone down the pineapple. We love pineapple but it was a little to much. Can I add more milk?

  6. Hi,

    Warm Greetings from Singapore!

Can I know whether you have available eBooks or Hard Copy Recipe Books for sale please?

I am interested in healthy Fruit Drinks and Smoothies please.

Appreciate if you can kindly also advice whether to use a Blender or Juicer for the said recipes as I have both in the kitchen but am not familiar with which to use as I only recently started.

    Thank You and Best Regards,

    Stephen Ng
